Managerial Strategies for Proper Handling of Workshop Tools by Building Technology Education Students in Rivers State The study investigated the managerial strategies for proper handling of workshop tools by building technology education students in Rivers State. Specifically, the study sought to investigate planning, organising, co-coordinating and controlling strategies for proper handling of workshop tools by building technology education students in Rivers State. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised 21 lecturers and 12 workshop attendants in state and federal institutions which encompassed Rivers State University, Port-Harcourt, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port-Harcourt and Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku. The population was manageable and hence the entire population was used for the study. Therefore, no sampling method was adopted. The objectives were formulated, answered and tested at a .05 level of significance. The instrument used for the study was a survey questionnaire. The instrument was face validated by two Vocational Technology Education lectures at Rivers State University, Port-Harcourt, and it was tested for reliability using the Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient method. A reliability value of .82 was obtained. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while the t-test statistical tool was used to test the hypotheses. The study found among others that planning out the required logical steps for students on the usage of workshop tools, arranging for proper integration of workshop tools in students' practical section, organising safety procedures for students on the usage of workshop tools, organising requisite guideline for students towards the handling of workshop tools. Co-ordinating students to secure workshop tools properly during practical activities, co-ordinating students to maintain a cordial relationship in handling workshop tools, controlling students to be violent free when handling tools in the workshop and overseeing students to avoid anxiety in the use of workshop tools are managerial strategies for proper handling of workshop tools by building technology education students in Rivers State. Therefore, it was recommended that educators of building technology should ensure that the required logical steps concerning general workshop tools management are assured because it will help in giving out requisite guidelines for practical activities. Role of educational planners’ in enhancing enrolment in technical and vocational education programmes in Rivers State. The study was conducted to ascertain the roles of educational planners in enhancing enrolment in technical and vocational education programmes in Rivers State. The descriptive survey design was used in the study having a sample of 75 participants (42 educational planners from tertiary institutions and 33 educational planners from technical colleges). The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire titled “Role of Educational Planners in Enrolment in Technical and vocational Education Questionnaire.” The instrument was validated by three experts in technical education. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained via Cronbach Alpha and a reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained. A total of 75 copies of the instrument were distributed to the participants and all the distributed questionnaires were retrieved and used for data analysis. Mean was used to answer the research questions and the hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 level of significance using a z-test. The result of the study showed among others that attaching prospects of technical education programmes on billboards and banners; creating and actively participating in social media platforms and establishing partnerships with organisations that can provide job opportunities for technical education graduates are some of the roles educational planners need to play towards enhancing enrolment in technical education programmes. It was therefore recommended among others that educational planners should regularly engage the public on enlightenment programmes to sensitize the masses on the prospects of technical education programmes as well as the need for early introduction of technical education to young people in Nigeria. Acquisition of work skills in radio and television repair for youth empowerment in Rivers State. The study investigated the acquisition of work skills in radio and television repair for youth empowerment in Rivers State. Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. A structured questionnaire of 50 items with five-point rating scale was used as the instrument for the data collection from the population of 250 comprising 20 technical instructors in electronics communication in the various technical institutions in the state and 10 unemployed youths from each local government area of the state summing up to 230 unemployed youths that are science oriented and between the age of 20- 30 years. The instrument was validated by three experts. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Method to obtain a correlation coefficient of 0.85. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the data in relation to the research questions. While the mean values were used to provide answers to the research questions, the standard deviation was employed to show the closeness in response opinions of the respondents. The z-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the study revealed that acquisition of work skills in radio and television for youths empowerment will create skill development by promoting employment creativity and sustainable means of living. Hence, reducing poverty among the youths. Based on the findings, it was recommended that government should provide functional skills acquisition centres in all local government areas in the state, creation of industrial awareness in electronics communication and attachment of financial benefit for entrepreneurial establishment in electronics communication among the youths. Electrical Measurement and Control Skills for Manpower Development in Nigeria. The study was conducted to ascertain the electrical measurement and control skills needed for manpower development in Nigeria. Purposive sampling technique was used in the study whose sample is composed of 82 subjects (24 electrical graduates and 58 supervisors). One research question guided the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire by the researchers titled 'Electrical Measurement and Control Skills for Development Questionnaire (EMCSDQ)'. EMCSDQ was designed on a 5-point Likert Scale. Three experts validated the instrument whose reliability was ascertained via Cronbach's Alpha which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.83. A total of 89 copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents by the researchers and one other research assistant. From the total questionnaire distributed, only 82 (representing 92.1%) was recovered and used for data analysis. Mean was used to answer the research question and standard deviation was used determine the closeness and homogeneity in the responses of the respondents. The finding of the study revealed that electrical measurement and control skills of instrument calibration, system servicing, troubleshooting and maintenance, electronic system simulation among others are needed for manpower development. Consequently, it was recommended among others that the government and polytechnic administrators should ensure adequate provision of training facilities in polytechnics workshops and laboratories; effective students industrial work experience scheme (SIWES); engage experienced lecturers and instructors in polytechnics for quality manpower development of graduates.
